Make Your Husband Happy Tonight:  Take Him to Dogfish Head Alehouse

We actually think that we found a place that would please your entire family. It is Dogfish Head Alehouse, owned and operated by the same company that brews; you guessed it Dogfish Head beer. We recently visited the Falls Church location and we became extremely pleased with the quality of service, ambiance, food and of course the beer.

First the beer. We tried all kinds of beer including the Raison D’Etre which was voted American Beer Of The Year for 2000, seasonal and fruity Festina Peche which is Weisse beer fermented with Peaches, Punkin Ale which is a full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. But our favorite was the Shelter Pale Ale which had a “fine malt backbone and a slightly nutty flavor.” The great thing about this place is that they will let you taste any beer on tap until you find the one you really like. Or you can simply follow their beer-food paring suggestions on their extensive menu.

From the menu, we ordered several dishes to share among the four family members. Let’s start with the Alehouse wings served either with BBQ sauce or dipped into spicy (they mean it) buffalo sauce. We chose the latter, and enjoyed our wings with generous servings of celery and blue cheese. You want more blue cheese they’ll get it for you at no extra charge. We also shared the Mediterranean Hummus Platter presented in a large plate with two selections of hummus which you cannot distinguish after few glasses of beer anyway. The hummus platter has ample amount of wood grilled pita bread, carrot and celery sticks, cucumber slices and olives.

Our kids devoured their Pepperoni Pizza and Penne Pasta with marinara sauce. Theses skinny minis then went on to share a Roasted Garlic Caesar Salad with grilled skirt steak. I tried a piece of the steak before they finished it all and it was soft, juicy and tasty. Yes, we also had some desert that included bread pudding and brownies served a la mode. They are great tasting deserts that will please your kids and your husband. With 3 great locations, you can’t afford not to take your family to Dogfish Head Alehouse

Because women aren’t allowed to like Dogfish all on their own?

Sally, being modern means you can enjoy it anyway you want! In our life, in general, pubs are from our past without kids or even more detailed, without me. I didn’t do pubs. Even visiting London, pubs were not on my radar. No pubs for me. But after going to this place, Murat is happy to report a place not only he liked (as a husband) but also the whole family!! Kids and all. We love this place. Even me…

If you haven’t been to this place, you are missing out. Order lots of beers, and definitely go with one or more appetizers. Be careful though – the best beers on the menu are all 10% ABV or above. Just a word to the wise from experience! We’ve never had to wait, the waiters are very nice, they always have sports and good music on (at reasonable volumes) and it is both a relaxed and relaxing environement. I give this place 5 thumbs up!
