WHAT IS A PERIODONTIST?
A periodontist is a dental specialist that requires three years of additional education beyond dental school, with a focus on regeneration procedures such as implants or plastic surgery to help with gum-line esthetics, as well as treating oral diseases. In my field, experience and training matters a great deal. My job is to help restore the function of teeth and preserve a person’s smile. This task often requires the skill , expertise, and experience of a specialist
CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR REASONS FOR BECOMING A DOCTOR?
I grew up with a love for science and a desire to do something in the medical field. Being a doctor is all about serving your patients, understanding the needs of your patients and doing your best to achieve their goals. This is pivotal in medicine. For periodontists, this often involves working with other dental or medical professionals. Putting the needs and goals of the patient first is my focus while collaborating with the best in the medical field.
YOU USE ONLY DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHS. WHAT IS THAT EXACTLY?
Digital radiographs are the standard form of x-ray imagery for today. They offer very low radiation and are available to be sent digitally anywhere within a few minutes.
HOW DOES YOUR PRACTICE DIFFER FROM OTHERS IN THE AREA?
Often times patients seeking dental work are nervous and unsure. Our emphasis is about comfort in a modern office environment. We strive to make our patients feel comfortable and confident. We do this by taking extra time with each patient; many of our patients become friends.
YOU INCORPORATE LASERS IN THE TREATMENT OF DISEASE. WHY LASERS OVER OTHER METHODS?
Lasers are essential to modern periodontal practices. Since opening my own private office 15 years ago, I have always had a dental laser. The laser allows certain procedures to be done in a less invasive manner with quicker healing time and less discomfort for the patient.
HOW DO YOU FIX MISSING TEETH?
Missing teeth can be replaced in many ways. Dentures being the oldest form, but modern bridges can be all ceramic with no metal showing, and dental implants can be used in almost every situation to restore missing teeth. What I do is the surgical placement of the actual dental implant. Then I work in concert with the best local restorative dentists to make sure the perfect smile is the end result for the patient.
SOME PATIENTS ARE VERY WORRIED AND EVEN HAVE PHOBIAS ABOUT HAVING DENTAL VISITS. WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE EACH PATIENT COMFORTABLE DURING THEIR VISIT WITH YOU? IS SEDATION AN OPTION?
Patient phobias are real, and that is where I think our office shines. We work hard to make people feel relaxed as soon as they walk in the door. I am trained to provide intravenous sedation to patients that wish to sleep right through their treatment.
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL LIFE?
I have a lovely wife and two children, in college now. My focus has always been my family, in fact, they were the reason I decided to open my solo practice 15 years ago. I am a huge dog lover. When I am not spending time with my family, both two-legged and four, I enjoy travel, reading, and checking out new places to eat.
