“ARE THEY TWINS?” MANY OF US ARE PERFECTLY COMFORTABLE PEERING OVER A DOUBLE OR TRIPLE WIDE STROLLER TO ASK MOMS OF MULTIPLES ANY NUMBER OF OBVIOUS, SILLY AND, AT TIMES, OVERLY-PERSONAL QUESTIONS. “DID YOU USE FERTILITY DRUGS?” “ARE THEY IDENTICAL?” AND “DID YOU WANT TWINS?” ARE COMMON – IF NOT TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE – QUESTIONS MOMS OF MULTIPLES ARE ROUTINELY ASKED.
Why do we find multiples so fascinating? Perhaps seeing those tiny faces reminds us of our own parenting struggles; the endless feedings, sleepless nights and diaper changes which overwhelmed us when it was only one baby. To imagine two, three or more babies at the same time leaves many of us feeling breathless.
Perhaps this multiple mania results from the glamorization of multiples by the entertainment industry. Disney capitalized on our fascination via the movie Parent Trap – twice! Wrigley featured twins doubling their pleasure and doubling their fun in Doublemint gum commercials for years.
Our fascination with moms of multiples inspired Posh Seven to launch a contest on Facebook where we asked readers to nominate their favorite mom of multiples. The nominations poured in in support of…..well….multiple women! We couldn’t pick just one so we invited five moms to join us at Stone Tower Winery for some time off from their busy schedules to tell us about their lives.
Congratulations again to our winners!

“The biggest challenge of being a parent of multiples is making sure each child gets individual attention. They keep me young and there is never a dull moment, but making them feel special is so important.”

“A piece of advice I would give to parents expecting multiples is to develop a regimented schedule as quickly as possible.
Keeping the babies on a sleeping and feeding schedule helped us tremendously, and allowed us to maintain our sanity!”

“Our funniest moment thus far with the twins happened when we began to investigate how they were escaping their cribs. At about 18 months, they started appearing in the kitchen. We had no idea how they were doing it. We finally caught them on the video monitor one morning. Colin would wake up first, throw everything out of his crib to wake Grant up. Grant would then pile everything up in his crib, stand on top of it and climb out of the crib, running over and throwing everything back into Colin’s crib, so that he too could pile everything up and climb out. We took the front crib rail off shortly after that.”

“It really is so neat to see them interact with each other and grow together. They are into copying each other which is hilarious! It is definitely monkey-see, monkey-do. They always have a best friend ready to play!”

Children: Eveyln (Evie) and Charlotte (Charlie) 1
“The greatest blessing that has come from parenting twins has much to do with the saying ‘twice the hugs and twice the kisses.’ It is so true. I have two sweet babies that are the best of friends. It’s great watching them hold hands, speak their twin language and grow together.”
