Stories from the Fit Side

I’ve driven by it a hundred times while taking my son to The Zone or trying out one of the many new restaurants in Loudoun Station.  I finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and try the boxing classes at Title Boxing Club (admit it, you’ve thought the same thing while driving by). I have never put on boxing gloves, let alone entered a ring, but I love to try new workouts and boxing was on my list.

I signed up for a free trial class that was 30 minutes long. I had no expectations for the class, except putting on some gloves and hitting a bag. As I entered the gym, I immediately noticed the staff wiping down all of the equipment, including lockers and floor. So cleanliness matters here. If anything I was at least going to be free of germs. The gym was pretty much how I imagined, a bunch of free hanging punching bags, a ring, and weights. Feeling like Rocky, I stepped in ready to get this thing started.

I was told to purchase wraps if I did not already have a pair of my own (um, no). They are necessary, as they are designed to help protect your hands. I wasn’t totally sure if I needed to purchase these wrap things. But I am glad I did, plus you get to pick from an assortment of fun colors.  After the instructors helped me wrap my hands, I was handed a pair of boxing gloves and we set out to start our work out.

During the cardio induced warm up, I realized how thankful I was for only signing up for 30 minutes. After a brief butt kicking, we put the gloves on and started to hit the bag.  My arms immediately begged for mercy.  My shoulders burned and my biceps stung each time I made contact with the bag. But as time went on, I started to really enjoy hitting something hard, pretending it was an old boyfriend or that car in the school rider line that still doesn’t know (after 6 months) how to drop off their kids following proper protocol.  After a few rounds of upper cuts and jabs, the class ended with a core segment.  Again, I was thankful it was almost over and kept thinking how was I possibly going to get up off the floor when all was done.

In 30 minutes my entire body was worked and I felt as if I had been there for hours.  Title Boxing Club was an amazing class and the instructors were helpful and knowledgeable. I am definitely going to go back for more and even try an hour long class.  If you want to try something new and get a great all over body workout, hit up Title Boxing Club at Loudoun Station.  I promise, you will not regret it.
