Van Metre | Best Home Builder

The name Van Metre comes from the Dutch Van Meteren, pronounced “Van Mayteren”, which means “from the manor or village of Meteren” located in the Waal Valley about halfway between Rotterdam and Nijmegen.

It seems only befitting that many of this region’s present day “villages” have been planned and created by one of the area’s most successful private multi-disciplinary real estate developers.

Since 1955, the Van Metre New Homes Division has delivered over 15,000 new homes and condominiums found in the many planned communities throughout Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, and in the City of Alexandria. Having constructed over 15,000 houses and several thousand apartments, as well as office buildings and shopping centers in Northern Virginia, the Van Metre communities include master-planned developments, as well as neighborhoods in smaller subdivisions and third-party planned communities.

They are a highly acclaimed organization of dedicated, energetic, involved professionals who continually define the benchmark for luxury living and refined commercial development, from Class A office developments to elegant residential communities and custom homes, to signature condominium and apartment communities.

Van Metre prides themselves in being a resident’s “builder for life,” with home designs for every stage in life. They even have special programs that can help renters in apartment communities apply a portion of their rent toward the purchase of a new Van Metre Home.

The difference between Van Metre and other home builders, as many homeowners can attest to (I being one of them), is the personalized attention that they provide. With homeownership being one of the most stressful decisions people will ever make in their lives, they understand that your home is a huge investment. Where other builders treat you like a number, everyone in the Van Metre operation, from the salespeople to the electricians, plumbers and builders understand not only the specifics of the construction itself, but the emotional support and hand holding one might require when making such a big decision.

In addition, to complement their homebuilding services, they also offer mortgages and closing and title services through two highly respected firms with competitively priced services: Intercoastal Mortgage Company and Walker/Dominion Title.

To ensure that they deliver the best building materials through the most cost effective means, they established their own building supply company, Total Structural Solutions (TSS). From assembling windows and wall structures to manufacturing joists and stairwells, to installing all of them, TSS provides Van Metre with a turnkey building process that adds value to every home. TSS has earned such a strong reputation in the regional homebuilding industry, in fact, that they also supply several other homebuilders and custom remodeling firms in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Because they have been a locally based, family owned innovator in the National Capital area for nearly 60 years, stability and longevity are two important qualities that make them stand out in the homebuilding arena. Some builders have a very limited model selection. Others are in financial difficulty and cannot always guarantee that they will be around to service you throughout the term of the warranty and beyond.

Their philanthropic activities alone speak volumes to their commitment to community. Since 1982, the Van Metre family and their company have been faithful contributors to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In 1991, Richard Rabil, the builder’s president and CEO, who is a runner, helped launch the Van Meter Five-Mile Race on behalf of the Medical Center. (Rabil’s son was born with heart disease and has been treated there several times.) To date that annual race has raised more than $1.7 million, which enabled the construction and operation of the Van Metre Cardiovascular Operating Room, a state-of-the-art surgery suite that opened in 2010. Between 70 and 80 company employees volunteer each year to help manage the race, and Beau Van Metre once hosted a party on his yacht in Palm Beach, FL, to raise funds for the Medical Center.

Each June since 2007, Beau Van Metre, the company’s chairman, and his wife Dee have hosted the Van Metre Polo Cup, which has raised millions to complete the 48,000-square-foot,21-bed Adler Center for Caring in Loudoun County, Va. The Center—an inpatient hospice care facility associated with Capital Caring—will sit on four acres donated by Van Metre Homes within its Stone Ridge community slated to open in 2013. The Polo Cup perpetuates the legacy of Al Van Metre, Beau’s father and the builder’s founder who, until his death in March 2008, had been a longtime supporter of Capital Caring, a hospice dedicated to palliative care and counseling for advanced illnesses.

The National Association of Home Builders recognized Van Metre Companies as the 2012 Philanthropic Builder of the Year for their work with National Children’s Hospital, Capital Hospice, George Mason University, and the Loudoun County schools. Since 1970, the company has continuously woven community outreach into their company’s fabric.

Van Metre Homes is committed to making their home designs ENERGY STAR® Compliant, which means they promote energy conservation and use environmentally friendly construction products. To earn ENERGY STAR® Certification, a new home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. They are typically 20-30% more efficient than standard homes. Van Metre has earned an above-industry standard 5 Star Rating. The HERS (Home Energy Rating System) verifies the efficiency level that means you, as the homeowner, will save money and energy.

Van Metre Companies has earned the trust and respect of citizens throughout Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. Continuously family-owned, Van Metre has always been considered the real estate development and construction leaders in the National Capital area. Their clients and customers recognize their focus on excellence and their philanthropic commitments. And their peers in the industry applaud–and often seek to emulate–their products and practices.

I’ve seen some of the homes built by van metre and some make good use of available space but many do not utilize space that will benefit the homeowner.
One of the biggest things- for the prices they charge of their houses, why not put a spa bath in the master bathrooms and granite counter tops in the kitchen of houses priced at $350,000 and above and stop taking away from buyers. Ripoff
