Vapiano is an international restaurant phenomenon growing very rapidly in more than 17 countries. Their growth plans are very aggressive within the US, especially in Virginia and Maryland areas with the additions of Reston, Georgetown, Bethesda and Baltimore locations to the existing four.

Vapiano catches your attention with its’ simple menu of pasta, pizza and salads. The concept is described as “somewhere between the nicest of fast casual and hippest of casual dining restaurants.” The next thing that catches your attention is the interior decoration. The restaurant combines the styles of chic European restaurants with hip W hotels. All locations have trendy and stylish bar area with comfortable leather seats and roomy dining floor filled with fresh basil plants.

When you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted by a hostess giving you a personal Vapiano shopping card. You then walk up to the kitchen area and interact directly with chefs cooking pasta, pizza or tossing custom made salads. You can select your food selections from existing menu combinations or create your custom dishes. Once cooked, you provide your Vapiano shopping cart to one of the chefs for scanning. Take your food and then go to one of the plush and comfortable seats at the dining room and enjoy your food. It is that easy.

I recently visited the Dulles Town Center location with my wife and daughter during lunch time. For our pasta, we selected pasta of the Emilia-Romagna region, Tagliatelle, which are long, flat ribbons that are similar in shape to fettuccine. I asked for my pasta to be cooked Funghi style with a cream sauce and mushroom mix. My wife shared her Tagliatelle with chicken and Alfredo sauce with our daughter. We also shared a bowl of Caesar salad. When we were done with our food, we took our Vapiano cards to the hostess and paid for our meal. At Vapiano, we were very happy with the freshness of the pasta, the taste of our sauces and the hot from kitchen to your table concept. I recommend this place to families looking for quality food served in a sophisticated atmosphere.
