Top Reasons Aruba is a Perfect Family Destination
When it is time to flee winter, I have the perfect destination for you: Aruba. A short four-and-a-halfhour direct flight will land you in the beautiful desert island of Aruba where the temperatures linger in the low 80’s with constant gentle winds making your heart sing with joy. Imagine yourself sitting on the beach under a palapa, sipping on a mojito enjoying the sun with no threat of torrential rain. Here are my top reasons for selecting Aruba as my favorite family destination this winter.
You can take the whole family on small excursions like a day of snorkeling, visiting the very sweet donkey sanctuary or enjoying a number of water sports available at the beach. We recommend you go on a Snorkel Cruise with De Palm Tours. Set sail on a fun catamaran across the turquoise waters of Aruba to explore the island’s best snorkeling spots while soaking up some sun. For those of you that want to dig a little deeper into the islands landscape, we recommend you get your cameras ready and head to the Donkey Sanctuary, a non-profit organization that tends to mistreated, neglected, and roaming donkeys. You’ll be able to tour the grounds, have a chance to buy donkey-themed gifts and souvenirs, and if you’re up for it – feed the donkeys too! You can even adopt a donkey. No, you can’t take one home.
With an average rainfall of under 20 inches a year, an average daytime temperature of 82° Fahrenheit (27° Celsius), a location completely outside the hurricane beltway, and the constant cooling of the trade winds, Aruba is one of the most temperate islands in the Caribbean — making it an ideal tropical retreat yearround.
For even the pickiest eaters, Aruba has a food option for you. Make sure to bring your appetite as you will be sampling local cuisine from the Netherlands at Linda’s Dutch Pancakes! These delicious Dutch pancakes are 20 inches and served with toppings of your choice. Want to drink a freshly squeezed passion fruit margarita while eating on the beach? Head to the oceanfront restaurant, West Deck. It is a local hotspot serving up delicious cuisine and drinks in a casual, fun atmosphere. There is a special area where kids can hang and make sand castles while parents can enjoy their cocktails.
We stayed at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, situated on Palm Beach. It is steps away from beach palapas – perfect for family photo opportunities, outdoor excursions and water sports, and local artsy hotspots. The hotel is oceanfront and it offers the most spacious hotel rooms and private balconies in Aruba with gorgeous views of the ocean or our resort gardens. Treat yourself to a massage or facial at the full-service spa. There is a 24-hour fitness center, sauna, whirlpool, our outdoor pool, where you can sip a cocktail in a private cabana. Soak up the sun on the beach or go for a swim. The dining options are plenty. You never have to leave the property if you don’t want to. They feature Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Atardi and La Vista restaurants. There are activities for all ages, from water sports to tennis. Make sure you enjoy the pop-up beach restaurant on Saturday. The sunsets are breathtaking. The golden hour never looked this good, ever.
