Crafting the Perfect Father’s Day

Mother’s Day typically gets a lot of attention, but Father’s Day is starting to catch up offering dad pampering sessions and craft brew joints providing the opportune moment for dad to relax. Below are a few recommendations to plan the perfect outing to honor your Dad of the Year while enjoying the unique charm only northern Virginia breweries can provide.

Before you head out for your Father’s Day adventure make sure you took some time to meet with the staff at Brew LoCo in Lansdowne to build a customized Father’s Day basket.  They will help you create a basket for any budget which can include, craft beer, cider, coffee and an at home brew kit.  Don’t forget to include a gift card for dad or arrange a class for a few of the best dad’s in your world to have a brew making or kombucha  making class along with a ticket to the annual Northern VA Summer Brewfest June 24-25 at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, VA.

If the weather is nice on Saturday, get out the bikes and explore the Brews by Bike Trail, a 45-minute bike ride connecting Loudoun County to Washington, DC. Along the way you can stop at a number of craft breweries including Crooked Run, Corcoran Brewing Company, Lost Rhino, Old Ox, Belly Love and Adroit Theory.

If you would rather go for a walk head to Reston and explore a trail and then make your way over to Lake Anne.  Stop in the family-friendly Lake Anne Brew House where kids can order custom flavored hand mixed craft soda flights to match dad’s craft brew flights.

I’d recommend making a reservation for a special meat loaded brunch prepared by Chef Erik at Magnolias at the Mill in Purcellville on Sunday morning. Once dad feels satisfied from breakfast take a short walk down the street and explore a few shops and find an antique keepsake.  Head across the street to meet the owners of Catoctin Creek and be on time for dad’s tour and appointment with an artist on-site to commission a personalized portrait of dad next to the potstills.  If whiskey or gin is his preference, they will also be serving up an array of specialty cocktails that will not disappoint.  Make your tour/portrait reservation early online here:  Adroit Theory is right around the corner and worth stopping in to try a delicious Catoctin Creek barrel aged brew.

If dad enjoys a nice cigar, make time for a short drive to Bogati Winery in Round Hill where every dad that comes into the winery on Sunday will get a free cigar with any purchase of a bottle or glass of wine.

Finish off the afternoon at Vanish Brewery, this is the perfect location to unwind to the tunes of Ted Garber and Nathaniel Davis all day. The brewery will have extended hours Sunday, staying open until 9pm.  While there, don’t miss out on the BBQ and insanely loaded two pound nacho tray for the whole family to share!
