Family Meal

It didn’t seem like the One Loudoun complex in Ashburn could get even better; it’s already home to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, The Fresh Market and Elevation Burger, among many other restaurants and shops. With the addition of Family Meal, the creation of chef/owner Bryan Voltaggio, comfort food with a modern twist is coming to the popular Ashburn entertainment complex.

The success of the Family Meal restaurant has already been proven with raved-about Family Meal locations in both Frederick and Baltimore, Maryland. When it opens in Ashburn, the restaurant will have a slightly different menu from its other locations, offering a softshell crab sandwich, lobster risotto and butcher steak with polenta, among various other meat and fish options. This certainly isn’t health food; some of the most popular items on the menu include the duck-fat fried potatoes and tilamook cheddar macaroni and cheese. Family Meal is the perfect place for just that: a family meal with a home-cooked taste at a casual, yet trendy restaurant.

fmFamily Meal restaurants may look like a modern take on a diner, but they provide something a little more sophisticated than your typical diner fare. Although this is a place for families or the perfect spot for a casual night out with friends, you certainly feel as though you’re eating something special. There’s a little gourmet twist added to everything. The sautéed spinach is imbued with golden raisins and hazelnuts and the doughnuts have a chocolate earl grey flavor. Their cocktail offerings are another area where the menu departs from typical diner food. Many of their drinks are unique creations and their adult milkshakes are decadent.

Voltaggio himself is a philanthropist who has raised more than half a million dollars for Share Our Strength, an organization that fights childhood hunger. Supporting children appears to be a passion of his and this is reflected in his desire to create a restaurant that appeals to sophisticated palettes and simpler ones alike.

This restaurant is much less expensive and less pristinely decorated than Voltaggio’s well-known Volt restaurant in Frederick. What it does share with Volt is extremely attentive service and high-quality cuisine. It also provides Virginians with an opportunity to enjoy the creations of the first chef to compete on both Top Chef and Top Chef Masters. Bring your family and get ready for a meal where everyone at the table is bound to leave full, happy and eager to come back.

Family Meal Ashburn will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours to be announced. Street and lot parking are included within the One Loudon development where the restaurant is located.
