One word that best describes your work pace: Fast

Tell us a little about your background and how you got here.

I grew up in Los Angeles and finished my education in Atlanta, Georgia. After moving to Loudoun County in 2004, I felt like a fish out of water. I was a stay at home mom, had two kids and felt very disconnected from other moms and the community. I wanted a source that I could trust and get information about being a mom in Loudoun. It didn’t exist, so I started Posh Seven Magazine, (originally called Modern Mom and I AM Modern). The rest, as they say, is her-story.

Take us through typical day.

My days start at 5. If I am lucky, I get 5-6 hours of sleep. In the mornings, I work and enjoy coffee with my pets and husband. I wake up my kids and get them to school. I generally hit the gym and head straight to the office. I work until carpool time and pick up kids, head home, drive to after school sports activities, come home, do homework, cook dinner, clean kitchen, put kids to sleep and watch tv while working. I generally go to bed around 9.

What apps, gadgets, or tools do you rely on every day?

My phone is an extension of my body. Apps: Mail, Messenger, and Instagram. I am somewhat obsessed with the latter.

What’s your office setup like?

I have the most girlie office ever. It is an open workspace, 1500 sq. ft. Very feminine and everyone wants to hang out there. I have to kick people out to make them leave. I bring dogs to work and play deafening music. My neighbors may hate me.

What’s your best time-saving shortcut?

Delegate. I learned to delegate. I can’t be all things to everyone. So I ask for help before I get overwhelmed.

Who are the people who help you get things done, and how do you rely on them?

My husband is numero uno. Biggest fan, as I am also his. I don’t think we can do what we do without each other.

How do you keep track of your to-do lists?

Super brain. No seriously. I have a good brain. It is always working, and that explains why I sleep so little.

What’s your least favorite thing to do, and how do you deal?

I don’t like dealing with self-serving people. When you are a publisher, you get pitched continuously. I love people who want to serve others, like my team and family. It is never about us. It is always about others. So when I get people who are just trying to make a name, I run. That is how I deal with it. I ignore them and run.

Do you take Posh timeouts? What do you do when you want to forget about work?

I watch Bravo. Lol. My husband can’t believe the programming stimulates me. I can’t believe he doesn’t see that I don’t watch it to be stimulated. I watch it to offload and go numb. I guess that is not really Posh.

What are you currently reading, or what’s something you’d recommend?

I only read books about business or travel. One day I will publish my full go to classic list of business books. I am jealous of people who listen to audiobooks. I can’t listen to them; I fall asleep instantly.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t lie to your kids.

Don’t be your kid’s friend.

Don’t rush.

Is there anything else you’d like to add that might be interesting to readers and fans?

Yes, I am very shy. Painfully shy. I don’t like talking to people and even going to my own parties. I do well in front of many people or not just a few. I am very uncomfortable with general interaction. Who knew that about me?
