From historic homes to vineyards, there’s no shortage of places where you can make your vows while you wow your guests.
Below, in no particular order, is a sampling of some of the most popular venues for weddings, large corporate functions, or other big celebrations in Loudoun and nearby in Northern Virginia. Our list includes long-loved sites and newer reader favorites. While many of the sites we highlight also are suitable for related events (such as bridal showers or rehearsal dinners) and smaller gatherings, this list focuses on their offerings for weddings and large celebrations. (Also see our list of suggested venues for bridal showers in this issue of Posh Seven!)
Set on 340 acres, surrounded by vineyards and horse farms, Salamander Resort is country chic at its finest (in 2019, it received a five-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, one of only 210 properties worldwide to do so). As if its gorgeous setting that provides stunning scenes in any season weren’t enough, Salamander also offers variety. You can host a traditional reception in one of its upscale ballrooms or under the stars on the lawn with walking paths that overlook the woods of the nature conservatory area. Or go for something unique and celebrate in the culinary garden where the resort grows its fresh herbs and vegetables, or at the Equestrian Center, where you can even set up in the spacious barn aisles (with or without horses in your company!). With 168 upscale rooms and suites and event venues that can accommodate 1,000 (or more) guests, Salamander can accommodate very large weddings. The resort provides all catering.
Raspberry Plain Manor
With high ceilings that flood it with natural light, this traditional manor house has a grand ballroom that can fit up to 200 guests. The picturesque grounds include the North Garden with a pergola and scenic vistas. Indoor events still let you enjoy the outdoors, as the grand ballroom’s huge windows offer spectacular panoramic views of the rolling countryside. Also onsite are a historic barn you can rent for events such as brunch and the farm house offering lodging for up to 14 guests. The venue permits clients to use any caterer of their choice.
Meadowlark Botanical Gardens
Long a go-to place for elegant weddings in a breathtaking environment, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in nearby Vienna (Fairfax County), continues to impress. With 95 acres of ornamental gardens, Meadowlark is a favorite for its outdoor options and the fancy Atrium. If you’re lucky enough to book your wedding at the right time, you may end up with some “extras” – in the spring, you might see blooming cherry blossom trees, while during the Christmas season an evening reception will have the extra glow of the park’s annual Winter Walk of Lights. Year-round, you can enjoy the outdoors indoors: In addition to garden views from three walls of glass, the Atrium brings natural elements inside with a 2,000-square-foot skylight, live trees, a babbling stream, and an indoor fountain. The Atrium can accommodate up to 230 seated guests and up to 300 standing guests. Great Blue Heron provides full on-site catering.
Stone Tower Winery
A wedding at a vineyard will already put you in nature, but Stone Tower takes this advantage a step further. This winery is popular not just for its wonderful views and balance of rustic charm with elegance, but also for its fun settings for exchanging vows. Here you can promise your eternal love in a ceremony right in the vineyard, on the hillside, next to a pond, in a beautiful ballroom, and even in winery’s tank room with cathedral ceilings and wood accents. The décor throughout Stone Tower is traditional and upscale, and the winery works with multiple preferred vendors. It can accommodate groups from 50 to 250 guests.
Another popular winery for weddings is Bluemont Vineyard. The natural setting and enviable views of Loudoun Valley from atop the hill are just the start. Inside The Stable, a creatively restored barn, you’ll find natural elements with luxurious touches. The climate-controlled venue can accommodate up to 200 guests. Spring, summer, and fall weddings benefit from beautiful outdoor options along the vines.
A fun plus: Dirt Farm Brewing and Great Country Farms (both run by families related to the owners of Bluemont) are just down the street from the winery, giving more fun options for your guests traveling from out of town.
Couples expecting many guests or looking for a “destination” wedding will find everything they need at Lansdowne. Its lavish gardens, historic plantation, and location in Northern Virginia’s wine country make Whitehall Estate ideal for a formal event. But the venue also prides itself on its balance of elegance and rustic charm to keep your wedding comfortable and fun. Mountain views, fire pits, gazebos, and other outdoor features add to the personality of the place – as do the log cabin, vineyard, and organic herb garden (Whitehall is a real working farm). Whitehall can accommodate up to 300 guests and provides in-house catering.

Bonus site: Top of the Town
Situated in Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood, across the Potomac River from Washington, DC’s Georgetown, Top of the Town is 25 miles or so from Loudoun County… not exactly around the corner. But no wedding venue list is complete without it, which gets top marks for its views alone. Featuring panoramic views of the nation’s capital and its monuments from a 100-foot span of floor-to-ceiling glass, the elegant setting will take your breath away, day or night. The venue is Metroaccessible, has an outdoor terrace and large indoor space, can accommodate 180 guests, and works with multiple vendors.
