I love giving and receiving books for the holidays: the classics, new selections, poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Finding the right book for that special person on your list is a creative challenge.

Currently on my reading radar is The Innovators by Walter Isaacson.

My latest obsession this season is fleece-lined leggings. So comfy, soft, and warm, yet stylish. My favorite pair is from Misguided Angels in Brambleton. You can also find them at your local retailers like Nordstrom Rack, Target, Justice and Walgreen’s.

My favorite things to give are handmade, or personalized gifts. This year, I am making my mother-in-law a ceramic platter with my children’s fingerprints at Color Me Mine and it’s simply perfect! While not exactly handmade, the Holiday Guest Towels from MarkandGraham.com are classy and useful. Their personalized items make for a thoughtful gift idea for anyone on your list.

It’s that time of year when everyone starts to think of the holidays, food, drinks, parties and of course, trying to stay healthy through it all…well at least I do. That’s why the Vitamix is my favorite gift to give/receive this holiday season. It is one of the most powerful blenders on the market.

You can blend many natural ingredients to create healthy recipes from great smoothies to dips to frozen drinks, hot soups, sauces, and nut butters — you name it, it can do most anything with it. The best part is that it’s THE easiest blender to clean!

The best price I was able to find for a Vitamix was at Costco. After three years of extensive use it’s still like new!

Models vary: $449 at Costco 5200 Model | vitamix.com

Throughout the year, when my husband or I want/need something, we buy it. So we decided years ago to stop exchanging gifts on Christmas. Instead, we give the money we would spend on gifts to charity. We also donate to charity in people’s names in lieu of having to figure out the perfect gift for them. We love not having to bustle about shopping, and we have more time to enjoy the meaning of the holiday.

We spread it around, too, and look for different charities each year. An easy website to find charities throughout the world or right here at home is:

Typically, the items that I can’t do without are technology or design based. This month, however, my favorite gift item is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The paint is phenomenal, no sanding, no priming and just so incredibly easy to apply. I used it for repainting an existing crib and dresser for our new baby.

Loudoun offers such a variety of retail choices that makes holiday shopping a breeze.

One of my personal favorite’s is Radiance Salon and Medi-Spa. They offer medi-spa and laser treatments, plus hair, nail and skin care. While you’re there, try one of their calming massages to revitalize from all that shopping! More on why I love Radiance here.
