Every year from Thanksgiving until just after New Year’s Day, you can experience the Bull Run Festival of Lights. Two and a half miles of the park are illuminated with holiday light displays. Drive the festival route from the socially distant comfort of your own car. Just turn off your headlights, and follow the magical glow. The 2020 Festival of Lights is the season’s best, brightest and socially distant activity to enjoy with your family and friends. They have added three additional weeks to this year’s show, and online ticketing to provide minimal contact. Holiday Carnival features rides for an additional fee after the light show. Meadowlark’s Winter Walk of Lights

Meadowlark’s Winter Walk of Lights is one of the most amazing light displays in the area.  The Botanical Garden is transformed into a winter wonderland for the season. Light displays include a two story animated fountain, a blue flowing stream of lights complete with jumping fish, and the parks beautiful trees elaborately wrapped in hundreds of lights.  Check out a variety of light-up items in the Snowflake Shoppe, or warm up with some hot chocolate or sweet treats from the Snack Shop. The Winter Village at Cameron Run

Enjoy Cameron Run Regional Park as it turns into a winter wonderland.  Enjoy holiday light displays such as the one hundred foot rainbow tunnel arch, Star Land, and an interactive orb field. Pose for great holiday photos with the numerous photo ops scattered thru the park such as a reindeer family, giant wreath, three dimensional sleigh, penguins and more. Have fun finding the elves on the elf scavenger hunt. Ice skating is available for an additional fee and must be purchased online. ZooLights Express

ZooLights may be cancelled this year, but the Smithsonian National Zoo has found a way to continue their annual beloved holiday tradition.  ZooLights Express will bring the colorful glow into the community. A twenty four foot ZooLights Express truck will hit the road, festively decorated with light displays and featuring “Panda Claws,”  to visit one Washington, D.C. neighborhood each Friday and Saturday night thru December.  Visit nationalzoo.si.edu for schedule or more information.

HolidayFest Gingerbread House Contest|

The Town of Occoquan invites you to enter their annual Gingerbread House Contest. Use your imagination and gingerbread to build anything from a simple cottage to an elaborate historic reproduction. Entries must be submitted in person to Town Hall, or virtually by emailing photos by December 4, 2020. There is no cost to enter, and winners will receive a $25.00 prize to spend at any local Town of Occoquan business. National Christmas Tree Lighting

This year you are invited to watch the lighting of the National Christmas Tree and holiday performances online. The show will be available to stream on-demand throughout the holiday season. The National Christmas Tree will be lit every evening throughout December. Visitors are invited to President’s Park to view the National Christmas Tree and the fifty six smaller trees representing every U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia, surrounding the National Christmas Tree. Christmas Sugar Cookie Decorating Class

Tis the season for Christmas Cookie Decorating.  In this class, you will learn how to make your own Royal Icing to fill and outline your favorite holiday cookies. Each student will receive pre-baked cookies ready to be decorated. Some of the designs included are Snowflakes, Snowmen, Christmas Trees, and Stockings. The workshop will include a box to take your treats home in. All items and tools needed to decorate will be provided for use during the workshop only. Reston Town Center offers public skating daily with extended hours for the Holidays. The skate shop is stocked with over five hundred pairs of skates, in both figure and hockey styles. Holiday Lights Tours
