For many adults, NYE is the perfect occasion for a fun date night or a chance to kick up their heels with friends. Here’s a list of our picks of local adult-oriented New Year’s Eve bashes.
MGM NATIONAL HARBOR
The huge resort and casino in nearby National Harbor, MD opens in December 2016 and is planning to host its first big bash on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with concerts by Duran Duran on both nights.
This Leesburg resort’s annual NYE celebration is so popular it’s offered only as a package. Enjoy a one night’s stay for two, dinner for two, admission to the show with the high-energy Marquise band, an open bar, party favors, a champagne toast and balloon drop, and midnight munchies. Prices start at $579.
JACK DIAMOND SHOW NYE PARTY
Mix 107.3 and The Jack Diamond Morning Show host a NYE party at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. This all-inclusive package includes hotel accommodations, a lavish four-course sit-down dinner, premium drinks, a martini bar, a balloon drop at midnight, and a live performance by the Jack Diamond-Jim Steed Band. Package tickets are $469 for two people.
BIG NIGHT DC PARTY
Big Night DC hosts a huge party each year at the Gaylord National at National Harbor, this time with 15 themed party areas, five dance floors, multiple bands and DJs, party favors, and food. Tickets start at $100 per person.
RITZ-CARLTON NEW YEAR’S EVE
Looking for a calmer NYE event? Celebrate the new year with a five-piece jazz band and a midnight champagne toast at Entyse Wine Bar & Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner. A $100 food and beverage minimum per person begins at 9 pm. Reservations not available.
This legendary music hall in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria rings in the new year with a night of bluegrass. The Seldom Scene, Locust Honey String Band, and Cabin Creek will be performing. Tickets are $39.50.
Each year ArtSpace hosts a fun and intimate late-night New Year’s Eve celebration with live music, hors d’oeuvres, and a champagne toast at midnight. Tickets are usually $25 per person.
Prefer to ring in the new year with the whole family? The following festivals provide a family-friendly atmosphere with age-appropriate activities for children and still enough fun for the adults. Stay until midnight and count down to the new year with the kids!
FIRST NIGHT ALEXANDRIA
This annual family-oriented, non-alcoholic New Year’s Eve celebration throughout Old Town Alexandria is a big, all-day event (1 pm to midnight) with 100 live performances at 18 indoor venues throughout the city. Activities include live music, comedy shows, dancing, and more. Kids can enjoy children’s entertainment, moon bounces, storytime, face painting, interactive games, and even a few pet-friendly activities. The midnight finale includes a spectacular fireworks show along the waterfront! Admission fees are $20 online through Dec. 13 ($30 beginning on Dec. 14) and include entry to all events. Kids under 12 and active-duty military members are free.
FALLS CHURCH WATCH NIGHT
This annual event in the City of Falls Church takes its name from the ancient African tradition of “watching” in the new year. The all-night event (7 pm to midnight) has indoor and outdoor activities at multiple venues, and it’s totally free (including admission, parking, and shuttle buses). Young kids can enjoy magic shows, storytelling, face painting, and moon ounces, and guests of all ages can take part in karaoke and enjoy live bands and a DJ. Most activities take place outdoors, but some restaurants also stay open for business throughout the event. At midnight, watch the lowering of the historic star.
FIRST NIGHT VIENNA
At First Night Vienna, guests will find live music, games, and activities for kids, as well as food from various food trucks and local restaurants. Kids will enjoy their own entertainment lineup, goodies such as balloons and glitter tattoos, and an early countdown, while late-night revelers can dance or participate in other activities, including a traditional ringing in of the new year at midnight.
FIRST NIGHT WINCHESTER
First Night Winchester is the largest family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration in the Shenandoah Valley. This non-alcoholic festival for all ages has entertainment and activities at various spots in downtown Winchester. The non-profit event offers music, dancing, arts and crafts, magic, comedy, and more. The day-long celebration kicks off at 10 am and ends at midnight with the “Apple Drop” and a fireworks display. Admission is $10 for anyone age 10 and up.
